London Fashion Weekend

Hey guys! This post is long overdue and I do apologise but even though it was a over a month ago now I must post on London Fashion Weekend. I was lucky enough to fly down to London for a few days with some people from my course. I got to check out the event at Somerset House and attend a trend catwalk show which was amazing! Of course there was some time spared for shopping and as well as Oxford Street and the centre, I spent an afternoon at Camden Market which is possibly my new favourite place! It was my first time in London and I completely fell in love with the city. There is something very surreal about the atmosphere and I got a taste for the lifestyle which I will perhaps adopt in the future. I will definitely be planning some more trips there soon!

 

The catwalk show at LFW featured the four main trends that are due to make an appearance this season. These looks were Graphic Art, Urban Life, Eastern Promise and Dolls House. It was presented to us by Zoe Hardman and showcased looks styled by Hilary Alexander.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 The key things to look out for S/S 2013 are monochrome as featured in Graphic Art. Don't be afraid to wear it on a larger scale incorporating reds and blues in to your Black and whites to really stand out.  A quirkier take on typical workwear as shown in Urban Lifestyle. Eg Pinafores (which are already everywhere and are a staple buy this season!) Bold prints and kimono style fabrics as inspired by the East! As well as lots of lace, florals and perfect pastel shades to bring out the girly girl in you as featured in Dolls House.

Leicester Square was so beautiful and visiting the Topshop flagship store was another highlight. I must have spent around 3 hours in there and then proceeded to go back the next day to spend some more! I have well and truly fallen for LDN and can't wait to go back!

Denim Daze

So, the other week I found myself rummaging in one of many storage bags stowed away in my loft. Said storage bags are of the vacuum pack variety and contain various articles of clothing I simply cannot part with. Items include quirky dresses I adored at the time and just know I will love again some day and lovely jackets that are too nice and unworn to give away. My problem is I just don't have the time or space to wear every item of clothing I own but don't have the heart to get rid for good!..which brings me back to my hunt. Forever re-occuring, the denim jacket is a classic and tends to make a reappearance in spring, sticking around for summer! This spring I am wearing my vintage/retro Levi's original. I found it when sorting through the clothes storage and remembered my parents had bought it at a market when I was younger during the grunge fashion of the nineties. Obviously too big for me then they had saw it as too good an investment to turn down and put it away for the future. Fast forward a few years and future me is now a perfect fit for the little beauty! When it comes to denim, Levi really is the leader in quality. If you can get your hands on one, a Levi's denim jacket will set you miles apart from the high street this spring/summer. Teaming it with a splash of yellow, my favourite colour this season, here's how I wear it for an every day look.

Red is a colour that complements denim blue perfectly. Therefore, I've decided on red lips for this look. Along with a red retro headband from Primark at only £2.00! An absolute bargain, snap it up now!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I recently got these yellow studded pumps by Love Label at £17.00. For a more active day, pop a pair like these on. Neon yellow is everywhere right now and studs are always good.

Sale Picks

Happy New Year! Hope you are all embracing 2013. I spent my new year in Tenerife soaking up the sunshine. I'm wearing my Urban Outfitters reworked Levi shorts in this photo. They were great to take on holiday as they looked good during the day and gave a retro feel to my outfits.  I found some time to go shopping (of course) and absolutely loved the Pull and Bear. I also made sure to check out the Zara seeing as it is the company I work for. It was possibly the furthest away store. However, I packed my red vans and found they were ideal for all the walking around i did and still looked cute. Perfect holiday shoes!

 

Back home, the weather is a completely different story and everything is looking like a winter wonderland! I thought i'd take the opportunity to show you my favourite sale picks. These are my best looks from the winter sales.

Chanel Linlithgow Show

13 days until Christmas! It's really beginning to feel like winter now. I absolutely love this time of year! Last week was the Metiers d'Art's Chanel show at Linlithgow in Scotland. I wanted to blog about this sooner as it took place last week on the 4th of December. Unfortunately, that was presentation day for me at uni so no time for blogging but i just had to mention it regardless! I really would have loved to have been there at the beautiful Linlithgow Palace. Doesn't it look stunning?!

The show is held in a different country each year and of course this year it took place in my native Scotland! Such a massive boost for Scotland on the fashion map! Very proud! The show highlights the work of Chanel's manufacturers from around the world. Fashion genius Karl Lagerfeld is rumoured to have spend 2 millions pounds on the show. He is undoubtedly the most classiest and fabulous 80 year old ever!

 

 

The show had a very scottish heritage vibe, inspired by Mary Queen of Scots who was actually born in Linlithgow palace itself. It featured a great mix of tartans and tweed. My favourite model Cara Delevingne was one of the stars of the show and our own Scottish model Stella Tennant kicked it off !

On another note, this week I had one of my first Christmas night's out. A sort of unofficial Christmas work's night out as my real one is on Sunday. Nonetheless a great night and here's what I was wearing.

 

 

 

I am a huge fan of backless detail in clothing. I think if worn correctly it can make an outfit! Everyone has been asking me where this is from so have decided to post it here to let you know. It's actually a body from ASOS and it cost £16.00. The extreme back dip and long straps are unusual, a great statement piece. My skirt is from New Look and originally £24.99 but I got it for around £9.49 or something due to their seasonal promotions they have had on. I love the sparkle it has through it and the dipped hem is one of my fave things. Perfect for some Christmas sparkle on your night out.

Colour Pop

 

With the Christmas party season in full swing, i've already been planning outfits and picking out accessories. Over prepared? perhaps but it is definitely the season to be fabulous! Today though,  I have been playing around with my make up bag. Make up itself is like the perfect fashion accessory! If you use it well you can add some of your own personality and really finish off an outfit, creating different looks every time. Here are a few of my favourite items i am using right now.

MAC Studio fix foundation, MAC make up brush, 'Famous' eyebrow compact kit, Inglot red lipstick and Maybelline gel liner pot and brush.

 

 

I bought this lovely little dress for my winter holiday which is coming up, i am so excited! I've pulled it out of the wardrobe to show you how to liven up the dull winter days and add some colour to your festive night out. I've ditched all the accessories and have only used the dress and make up to create this look.

 So basically i started off by creating the base for my face then used my gel eyeliner to outline and add these little statement flicks. Using the brush is a must for this, I find it so much easier than eye pencils etc because you have more control. I only added a little mascara here so not to overpower it.

 

 

 

 

Next I applied my bright red lipstick for a pop of colour. I use a variety of different lipstick brands but Inglot are good for bright colours and give the matte effect i usually prefer. Best red lipstick except from MAC's but if you're on a budget definitely the cheaper and equally good option.

 

 

 

I also subtly highlighted my eyebrows ust to give a bit more definition. I've kept it really natural though. I find using the eyebrow shadows give a nicer, natural look. My kit has a few different shades and a little brush but i tend to just use the lighter brown shade as my eyebrows are naturally light already.

 

 

 

 

I've styled my hair quite tousled and not really done much with it to be honest just to show that the pops of colour in the lips and the dress are the key components.

  

 

 

 

 

So there you go, a simple pop of colour can be really effective! I will leave you with this beautiful little satchel from the Cambridge Satchel company. The colour is exclusive to ASOS and the perfect colour pop item to go on your wishlist! It's £100 but they are amongst the best in the business for what they do so you know you are getting quality and well... it is christmas soon!
